Lockdown in Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan: Guidelines and restrictions now

Due to a spike in Covid-19 cases, a few states like Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan have imposed certain guidelines and restrictions in some areas. Check out all details here.

The coronavirus outbreak came to light on December 31, 2019 and subsequently, the disease spread to more provinces in China and to the rest of the world. As per the recent data, India has recorded 47,262 new Covid-19 cases and 275 deaths in the last 24 hours. Check-out the list below:

However, due to a spike in Covid-19 cases, a few states have imposed certain guidelines and restrictions in some areas.

Lockdown in Maharashtra

Parbhani district recorded 1,132 new cases to its tally since March 1, taking the cumulative count to 5,843 as of March 22. Hence, to contain the rise in Covid-19 cases, lockdown has been imposed in Parbhani district in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra from March 24 to 31.

Lockdown has been imposed in the city of Nanded in Maharashtra from March 25 to April 4. The city will remain closed for eleven days. A complete lockdown will be imposed in the Beed district of Maharashtra from March 26 to April 4.

In Maharashtra’s Aurangabad, lockdown during the night has been imposed till April 4. Additionally, Section 144 has been put in place in the region between 8 pm and 5 am.

Lockdown in Punjab

On Monday, Punjab reported 2,319 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 2,15,409. Strict restrictions were imposed by the Punjab government beginning Saturday. All educational institutions, except medical and nursing colleges have been ordered shut till March 31.

Exceptions include weddings, funerals and cremations with up to 20 persons. Restriction of 50 percent capacity will be there in cinema halls and not more than 100 persons in a mall at any time.

Lockdown in Madhya Pradesh

After Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur and four more cities Ratlam, Betul, Chhindwara and Khargone — will be under lockdown on Sundays. Apart from this, public gatherings for all upcoming festivals have also been banned in the state.

Lockdown in Gujarat

The state government last week announced an extension of night curfew by two hours in four cities — Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot — from 10 pm to 6 am to tackle the surge in Covid-19 cases. However, the night curfew was extended till March 31.

The state government on Sunday also said that it won’t grant permission for Holi celebrations due to the surge in Covid-19 cases. However, the religious ritual of ‘Holi Dahan’ associated with the festival can take place with crowd restrictions.

Lockdown in Rajasthan

The number of Covid-19 cases in Rajasthan has increased. The government there has announced night curfew in eight cities — Ajmer, Bhilwara, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur, Sagwada (Dungarpur) and Kushalgarh (Banswara) — from March 22. The curfew will be imposed from 11 pm to 5 am. Apart from it, urban markets will remain shut after 10 pm.
